Brief Biography
Gayle Yamauchi-Gleason received her PhD in Communication Studies from Ohio University where she specialized in organizational communication, qualitative research methods and higher education administration. Her previous work experience includes student affairs administration, university staff development, continuing education program development and teaching and EEO/AA compliance and training. Gayle also consults in the areas of diversity, leadership, strategic visioning and community development. She greatly enjoys assisting mission-driven organizations align their values, goals and programs.
In the MSOD program Gayle teaches Organizational Behavior, Diagnosis and Change, Strategic Change and Leadership in Organizations. She has also taught communication fundamentals, conflict resolution, cooperative argumentation, ethics and writing at the undergraduate level at three other institutions across the U.S.
Her research interests include Sense-Making in organizations, the experience of internalized oppression and oppressions in organizational settings and the use of constructivist approaches to listening as a reflective practice. She has published articles on organizational change, online diversity training, leadership, and student paraprofessionals in higher education.
Yamauchi-Gleason also holds an M.A. in Communication from University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and a B.S. in Business Administration from University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She resides in Santa Cruz with her family.
