professionals with an opportunity to obtain advanced education in current
developments in the functions and techniques of management as applied
to a broad range of health care sector organizations. The program covers all
the significant content areas identified by the National Association of
Schools of Public Affairs and Administration (NASPAA) in its Standards
for Professional Master's Degree Programs in Public Affairs/Policy
Objectives
The MPA/HSA Program is designed to provide public sector administrators
with management education to supplement their existing practical and experiential
knowledge. The program is also appropriate for those who, in their current
professional occupations, have significant interaction with health care sector
administrators. The curriculum focuses on the application of management
theory and research to common operational, functional, and resource issues
in the health care sector. The ethical implications and legal responsibilities
of public managers serve as a foundation for understanding managerial
actions. Techniques used in planning, organizing, staffing, and evaluating
the work of health care organizations are emphasized. Students will have the opportunity
to improve their managerial skills to enhance the provision of services
to the public. The program also enables students to engage in self-assessment
and goal-setting for lifelong learning and continued professional growth.
