Sample MSIS Course Schedule

Through the MSIS program, students typically attend class as a cohort for four hours, one night a week, and take the courses in modular sequence. Occasionally courses are offered simultaneously with additional course sessions being taught online or on an alternate day of the week. Optional concentrations in Biotechnology and Information Security are offered within this major.

* If the concentration in Biotechnology or Information Security or is chosen, courses marked with * will be replaced with courses from the concentration areas below.

The Biotechnology concentration area will consist of three courses which complement the core information security course required for all MSIS students,

  • MSIS 661 - Local, National, and Global Biotech
  • MSIS 662 - Bioinformatics
  • MSIS 663 - Legal, Social, and Ethical Implications of Biotechnology

The Information Security concentration area will consist of three courses which complement the core information systems course required for all MSIS students,

  • MSIS 636 - Identity Management and Trust
  • MSIS 653 - Network Security
  • MSIS 659 - IT Audit and Forensics
  • Students opting for the Biotechnology or Information Security concentration should note that the above courses replace the following in the standard MSIS curriculum,

  • e-Business Technologies
  • Enterprise Information Systems
  • Business Intelligence and Data Warehouses
  • The three courses comprising the concentration area will only be offered in one location on Saturdays. Most likely this will be San Francisco.

    BSIS students who have graduated within the last two years with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better in their major can have Analysis, Modeling, and Design and Database Systems (the first two courses) waived.
