Course Program Withdrawal
Course Withdrawal
Although students are not encouraged to withdraw from a course, there are times when it may be necessary to do so (death in the family, out-of-the-country-business trip, medical problems, etc.).
If it becomes necessary for a student to withdraw from a course, he/she must contact his/her academic advisor and instructor as soon as possible. Students must email their advisor the following information:
- Name, Group #, Course #
- Phone #, USF id #
- The Reason for the Withdrawal
- Date of the Last Class Session Attended
A one course withdrawal is an exception to CPS policy and is granted only once
during the sequence of the student's major coursework. A one course withdrawal
may affect the student's eligibility for financial aid. If the Semester Census
Date has passed, the student is liable for the tuition for the course from which
he/she is withdrawing.
Program Withdrawal
Should a student need to withdraw from the program,
he/she must email the Registrar's Office at registrar@usfca.edu
and his/her advisor the information indicated above. If the program withdrawal
occurs after the Semester Census Date, the student is liable for the entire
tuition for the semester in which the program withdrawal occurred.
Students who decide to re-enter the CPS program at a later date must apply for re-admission to the University and satisfy degree requirements and tuition rates in effect at the time of their readmission.
Tuition Refund
For students who request a tuition refund after the Semester Census Date, an
exception to the refund policy may be granted upon the recommendation of the
student’s academic dean with final approval by the University Bursar.
Generally, refunds of tuition after the Semester Census Date are made only in
those cases where events affecting enrollment are non-recurring, catastrophic,
or life threatening, and beyond the student’s control. Documentation will
be required.
Grades:
Students who do not officially withdraw from their course(s) and/or their program
and simply stop attending classes, will be given a grade of “F”
for the course(s) involved. Students cannot graduate with an “F”
in a major course and must retake the major course in which they received an
“F.” All grades remain on the student’s record and are used
to calculate the student’s USF cumulative grade point average. Instructors
may not give students a grade of “W” (withdrawal).
Grades of Incomplete are assigned only under exceptional circumstances.
Grades of Incomplete that are not removed by the deadline date or within 15
consecutive weeks following the end of the course will become final grades of
“F”. This also applies to students who withdraw from the program
with an “Incomplete” on their record. Grades of Incomplete that
are not removed prior to withdrawal will become “F” grades if not
completed. They will not be converted to grades of “W” due to late
withdrawal.
